Activities CLose to the Bergchalet Gastein
Whether you’re here in summer or winter, make the most of the tranquillity of the mountains that encircle the chalet. Our local peak, Fulseck, offers lots of ways to immerse yourself in the wonder of the alpine panorama – and plenty of options for exploring your surroundings more actively, too. Depending on the weather, you can explore on foot, on skis, by bike, on three wheels, or from the air.

Mountain Carting
There are many routes down from the mountain, but the quickest way is probably on three wheels. Jump on a mountain cart and zoom down from the summit of Fulseck towards Mittelstation and almost to the door of our chalet. Follow the 4.8 km route along mountain trails and farm tracks as it descends 550 metres. Thanks to the carts’ stability, both adults and children aged 10 and over can enjoy racing downhill.

Mountain Biking
You can pick up speed on a mountain bike, too – downhill at least. Choose from various trails of different levels of difficulty that loop around Fulseck and the Gastein Valley. How about a circuit to the centre of Dorfgastein and back, via the Reiterhütte? The return route takes you along the Gruber Waldweg, up Heumoosalm, and then back to the chalet.
At the summit of Fulseck you’ll find the start of a singletrack trail with a difficulty rating of S1 that forms part of the Großarltal–Dorfgastein Bikeschaukel, a network of lifts and trails. Beginners and advanced riders alike will love shredding the 10 km route down to the Großarltal valley. Take the Panorama cable car back up to the summit – just like the Dorfgastein cable car, you can take your bike with you.

Paragliding
No matter the time of year, Fulseck has the perfect thermal updraughts for lifting off and gently floating in the midst of the mountain panorama. Both launch sites are located close to the summit, not far from Bergstation cable car station. You can choose to take control, book a tandem flight as a passenger, or have a lesson in paragliding.

Hiking
Why not enjoy some rest and relaxation by Spiegelsee lake at the foot of Fulseck? Allow your gaze to wander across the breathtaking panorama, while the children let off steam in the woodland play area – or test your balance on the wobbly stones in the clear water. Spiegelsee lake is just over an hour’s walk at a leisurely pace from the chalet. Alternatively, take the mountain cable car up to the summit and hike down to the lake from there. Experienced hikers can extend their route from Spiegelsee lake all the way to Kreuzkogel mountain.
The themed barefoot trail is not purely a Spiegelsee lake phenomenon. Around Bergchalet Gastein you’ll find an abundance of flowers on the Blumensteig trail; fascinating details about fauna on the Jagasteig trail; educational information about mushrooms on the Pilzweg trail; and magical power spots along the Naturlehrpfad trail.

GASTI´S BALL COURSE
A short distance from the chalet, it’s time to chill out and take your eye off the ball… Or maybe not – GASTI’s Ball Course requires skill, coordination and patience to successfully overcome the challenges along the 700-metre obstacle course. You’ll need a small wooden ball to complete the course; this can be purchased for EUR 2 from the vending machines at Mittelstation.

SKI PISTES – Ski In, Ski Out
The Dorfgastein–Großarltal ski resort covers around 70 km of blue, red and black pistes. There are several options to choose from depending on your skill level, and the area is also suitable for families. The majority of the pistes are easily accessible from the chalet’s front door – just click into your skis and you’re ready to go. Alternatively, you can take the mountain cable car from Mittelstation to the summit of Fulseck.

Mountain Carting
Drift through a breathtaking panorama: early in the morning, before regular skiing gets underway, you can put the freshly prepared slope to the test. Three wheels and a handlebar will guide you through the many corners and fast-paced straights as you descend Fulseck’s freshly groomed slopes. By the time you reach Mittelstation, you’ll have descended some 550 metres. The mountain carting course is beginner-friendly and suitable for children aged 10 and over. Skiwear is essential.

Hiking in Winter
Enjoy a one-of-a-kind view over the snow-covered peaks of the Alps from 2,000 metres above sea level: Fulseck’s Panoramaweg trail takes you from Bergstation cable car station to the Kieserl plateau and back again. It’s a leisurely route, no matter the time of year. The summit of Fulseck is easily accessible via the cable car near the chalet – or you can climb up on foot.

Snowshoeing
SCHNEESCHUH TRAIL
Experience the quiet of the mountains on the snowshoe trail, a 4.8 km ski tour across gently undulating pistes from Mittelstation to Bergstation. The path is signposted and starts nearby the chalet, initially leading towards Heumoosalm. It then turns in the direction of Arltörl, where you’ll find a chapel and a popular rest area. Continue uphill until you reach the new Kiesel mountain station. From here, you’ll already be able to see your destination, Fulseck, ahead of you. Allow around 2.5 hours to complete the trip.

No matter the time of year, Fulseck has the perfect thermal updraughts for lifting off and gently floating in the midst of the mountain panorama.
